Marjorie Elaine (Glanville) DeBusk, daughter of the late Wilbur and Ruby (Proctor) Glanville, was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Urbana, and departed this life Aug. 8, 2021, at her home, south of Mountain Grove. She was 97 years, 6 months and 6 days of age. Marge attended public school in Urbana. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at a young age. She followed her adventurous spirit and started college at Bob Jones College in Cleveland, Tenn. For a short time during World War II, she worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., typing up the fingerprint cards including the ones for the 17 year olds that were trying to join the military and go to war. Marge was always proud of the fact that when girls were not allowed to play college basketball, she was able to play with a team from the FBI. She was an aggressive guard on the court. After the war, Marge went back to college, this time at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., where you can find her name engraved on the sidewalk in front of Old Main. She met her soul mate, the love of her life, Sherrell DeBusk and on Sep. 22, 1948, they were married in her family home in Urbana. They taught school in Urbana that year and then moved to Manilla, Arkansas to teach. One daughter, Barbara, was born in 1952. In early 1953, they moved to Mountain Grove to teach. Marge taught Vocational Home Economics and Sherrell taught Vocational Agriculture. They joined the First Baptist Church when it was located at the current Mountain Grove Arena location. While teaching school, Marge joined the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She was able to help and influence many young ladies. During the summer months, Marge canned all the vegetables that Sherrell grew in their “large” garden. Another highlight, during school closures because of bad weather, Marge was able to join some of the high school boys and play basketball with the teacher team. In 1983, Marge retired from teaching.
She and Sherrell started the next adventure. They had an RV and began adding travel to the hunting and fishing they had always done in their spare time. They organized an RV club called the Roubidoux Ramblers and traveled all over the United States. Her granddaughters, Michelle and Marji, spent their summers with her and traveled with them. During those summers while visiting with Marge, she made matching gingham circle skirt dresses for both granddaughters. Those dresses are still being worn by the great-granddaughters. In between their RV Club travels, they went to visit Barbara wherever she was living. They had a great time in Arizona when Barbara and Marshall owned the 1890s trading post.
Besides her parents, Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Sherrell DeBusk, and her brother Charles Glanville. Marge is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Marshall Rader, of Mountain Grove; grandchildren, Michelle and Danny Boothe, of Huntsville, Ark.; Marji Parsons, of Bentonville, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Megan Boothe and Derek Boothe, of Huntsville, Ark.; and Rylie Parsons, of Bentonville, Ark.; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Funeral Services for Marjorie DeBusk were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove. Brother Gene Edwards served as the officiant. Special songs were “In The Garden,” “Amazing Grace” and “I’ll Fly Away.”
Serving as pallbearers were Marshall Rader, Derek Boothe, Danny Boothe, Malcolm Kemper, Don Lutes and Kane Roth. Burial was in the Lone Star Cemetery of Mountain Grove under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Online condolences: www.craighurttfuneralhome.com.
