Mansfield Lady Lions crush Fordland

The Mansfield Lady Lions improved their record to 11-4 on the season recently after splitting a pair of games with Fordland and Ava.

Against the Lady Eagles, Mansfield jumped out to a 15-5 first quarter lead and pushed their margin to 21 at halftime. They would cruise late to the 53-24 Summit Conference victory. Lauren Jones scored six points in the first quarter while Harleigh Hodges added nine in the second to help the Lady Lions to a 33-12 edge at halftime.

Mansfield’s defense held Fordland to seven points or less in the first three quarters on their way to the win. Lauren Jones finished with a team-high 12 points as nine different players scored. Hodges scored 11 points; Madalyn Ivy had nine; Logan Jones scored seven points; Elly Williams had four points; both Chloe Lemons and Haven Tripp scored two points; while Macie Tate had one point.

A buzzer beater led to Mansfield’s loss on Ava’s home court as the Lady Lions lost, 36-34.

Mansfield’s loss could be contributed to a rough start as they scored only two points in the first quarter. Trailing 8-2, Logan Jones scored six points in the second, but Ava led by nine points at halftime.

Lauren Jones had seven points in the third though Mansfield was still down five points entering the fourth quarter. She continued to come up big in the fourth with another nine points. Though Ava only had nine points in the fourth and 17 in the second half, the Lady Bears found a way to win late.

Lauren Jones did finished with 16 points, Logan Jones had 12 points while both Hodges and Lemons had three points.
