Mansfield Lady Lions clinch Summit Conference title

The Mansfield Lady Lions finished their undefeated run to a Summit Conference title last week after winning their final two games on the road against Conway and Seymour.

Mansfield has a 20-4 record entering their final week of play before the Class 3, District 10 Tournament.

They picked up a big, 49-36, win over the Seymour Lady Tigers after eight different Lady Lions scored.

Mansfield jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead as Haily Tripp had seven points and Logan Jones added five.

Seymour cut the lead to four before halftime after their solid second quarter. Mansfield’s points mostly came from the free throw line as the Lady Tigers were in foul trouble. The Lady Lions made 4-of-8 free throws in the frame.

Mansfield’s defense shut Seymour down in the second half as they held the Lady Tigers to 14 points.

Haven Tripp scored five points in the fourth to help the Lady Lions down the stretch.

Logan Jones scored a team-high 15 points in the victory.

Haily Tripp had 12 points; both Lauren Jones and Haven Tripp scored six points; Macie Tate had five points; both Elly Williams and Chloe Lemons scared two points; while Madlyn Ivy scored one point.

Against Conway, the Lady Lions had a 22-point first quarter to help them in a 62-47 win over the Lady Bears.

Lauren Jones made three, 3-poitners in the first quarter and scored 11 points to help Mansfield open up with a 22-11 lead.

Six different Mansfield players scored in the second quarter to help the Lady Lions increase their edge to 17 points at halftime.

A 17-point third quarter was sparked by a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe.

Mansfield would go on to win the game by 15 points.

Lauren Jones led the Lady Lions with 16 points; both Macie Tate and Harleigh Hodges had nine points; both Logan Jones and Williams added eight points; Ivy had four points; both Haley Tripp and Lemons had three points; and Haven Tripp scored two points for the Lady Lions.
