Mansfield gets win over Seymour

After making a late charge in the season to get their record to near .500, Mansfield’s baseball team ended the fall by losing two of their final three games.

Their big victory came on Oct. 5 when they opened the Summit Conference tournament with a big 17-7 victory over Seymour.

The Lions had a 10-run second inning to take a 13-3 lead and never looked back in the victory paced by a 13-hit attack.

Twelve different players also scored at least one run in the win.

Madix Gray paced the Mansfield Lions’ offense with three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored while Trevor Williams added three RBIs and two runs scored.

Chade Noble had two RBIs and two runs scored; Kellar Davis had two RBIs and one run scored; Dylan Robertson tallied two RBIs and two runs scored; both Carter Brooke and Kile Gray had one RBI and two runs scored; while Tanner Indendi had one RBI. Brayden Barnett, Kyle Buchanan, London Dennis, Dylan Henry and Brock Gray each scored one run.

Noble allowed two earned runs and allowed two hits in one inning of work on the mound. He also had two strikeouts. Davis tossed one and one third innings of shutout ball and had one strikeout.

Kile Gray had two and two thirds innings of work and allowed two earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Before their season ended with a loss in the semifinals to Hartville in the Summit Conference tournament, they did play a game over the weekend against Marion C. Early.

The result was a tough 4-0 loss after the offense had just two hits.

Brooke and Barnett each had one hit in the loss.

Robertson picked up a loss on the mound in spite of tossing six innings and allowing just two earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
