Posted

Just after 10 a.m on Tuesday May 18, 911 dispatch received a call regarding a possible suicidal male subject in Hartville.

Wright County deputies, with the assistance of the Hartville Police Department, responded to a home located at 4300 Krause Rd. Reportedly, the male subject came to the door when deputies arrived and shots were fired from the area of the door and exchanged with law enforcement. No officers or deputies were hurt in the shooting. The male subject reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot. An autopsy has been scheduled on the deceased. The suspect’s name was not released as of press time. The investigation has been turned over to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Webster County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. It was reported when the 911 call came through that an officer had been shot.  In response, law enforcement from Mountain Grove, Mansfield, Seymour, Hartville, Webster County, Douglas County and the Missouri State Highway Patrol all fled to the scene.

Wright County Sheriff Sonny Byerley said it was pretty amazing to see the amount of law enforcement that responded.

“I want to thank all of the law enforcement that responded,” Sheriff Byerley said.

“It really touched me to see that kind of response cause one of our own were (reportedly) down.”
