Lyda Fay (Sloan) Wheat

Lyda Fay (Sloan) Wheat went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sep. 4, 2021, at her home in Vanzant, after a brief illness. She was 84 years old. Lyda was born on April 29, 1937, at Topaz to Ora and Rozella Sloan. On May 25, 1954, she married B.E. (Jack) Wheat, son of Noah and Ethel Wheat, from Vanzant. After they were married, they moved to Idaho where they lived and worked for a few years. In the late 50s, they returned to Missouri where they made their home, worked and raised their family. Lyda was a Christian and her faith was strong. She loved her family, going to church, reading, doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, cooking and tending to her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jack C. Wheat; grandson, Ryan Kutz; son-in-law, Bill Turnbull; her parents; two sisters; two brothers; two half-sisters; and one half-brother. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack; three daughters, Marcia Turnbull, of Mansfield; Sherry Pennell and her husband, Monty, of Vanzant; and Pam Wheat, of Springfield; four grandchildren, Angela Parker, of Rolla; Nicole Patrick and her husband, Christian, of Bastrop, Texas; and Michael Wheat and wife, Brandy, of Columbia; three step-grandchildren, Garrett Pennell, Noah Pennell and Ashtin Pennell, all of Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Natosha Horn, Samantha Parker and Roy Allen Parker, all from Idaho; Patience Hackett and Kambre Sauceda, both from Texas; Waylon Wheat and Willow Wheat, both from Columbia; and one great-great granddaughter, Emma Horn, of Idaho. Lyda will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Graveside services for Lyda Wheat were held Thursday, Sep. 9, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Tedrick Cemetery with Stasey Sheppard officiating. Song selection was “Just Any Day Now.” Monty Pennell, Marty Clinton, Nick Clinton, Randy Emery, Bobby Emery and Bob Higgins served as pallbearers. Burial was in Tedrick Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Tedrick Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
