Larry Dean Curtis

Larry Dean Curtis, son of Elsie B. (Hicks) Curtis and the late Byron Wayne Curtis, was born Feb. 16, 1951, in Douglas County, Missouri, and passed away Nov. 20, 2020, at Cox Health in Springfield. He was 69 years, 9 months and 4 days of age. Larry was raised in Douglas County and graduated from Norwood High School in 1969. He married and five children were born to this union. Larry worked at Hutchens Industries and retired after 27 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed sucker grabbing, deer hunting, back road driving and making comments to others to get them to smile. He provided a positive upbringing for his children and was always proud to see them succeed. They didn’t have an abundance of money but they always had a roof over their heads and food on the table. He greatly enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. Larry was saved and baptized at a young age. Larry is survived by his mother, Elsie Curtis; two sons, Chris Curtis and his wife, Kristan, of Niangua, and Ryan Curtis, of Mountain Grove; three daughters, Tracy Cottengim and her husband, Bobby, and Lindsey Curtis, all of Norwood; and Angela Crisp, of Rogersville one brother, Junior Curtis and his wife, Colleen, of Mansfield; two sisters, Brenda Brown and her husband, Verl, and Debbie Massey, all of Norwood; 11 grandchildren, Ashlynne, Jordan, Shelby, Harper, Madison, Murray, Wyatt, Brock, Sierra, Keyera and Jade; two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Collins; and many other relatives, neighbors and friends who will miss him. Visitation for Larry Curtis was held Monday, Nov. 23, 2020, from 5-7 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Home Cemetery, Drury, with the Rev. Zach Williams and Dr. Steve Fugitt officiating. Vocal selection was “Amazing Grace” sung by Karen Curtis.  Other song selections were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Tyler Marion, Nathan Nava, Lee Curtis, Cody Brown, Brandon Mayberry and Brock Curtis served as pallbearers. B.J. Curtis and Andy Brown served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Pleasant Home Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
