Lake Freebird Triathlon/Duathlon event set for 22nd straight year

Posted

The public is invited to bring their lawn chairs to cheer on the athletes at this Sunday’s 22nd consecutive year for the Lake Freebird Triathlon and Duathlon.

The event begins at 8 a.m. on June 27 and is once again sponsored by MacPherson Law Center.

“We are very proud to have been donating over the last 22 years  to what are just fantastic organizations in this community,” said Race Sponsor Attorney Jason MacPherson of MacPherson Law Center.

For those wishing to attend the event, there will be a parking sign near what was once Dr. Hill’s Medical Clinic on Bush St. in Mountain Grove.

“It is a very pleasant half mile walk along the lake to the race start and transition area,” said Race Director Cynthia MacPherson. “There will be someone at the parking area to help with parking and to drive anyone unable to walk the half mile to the start.”

Those athletes interested in participating in the event  can register up until the morning of June 27.

Detailed information is available on Facebook at Lake Freebird Triathlon. Online registration is also available.

Entry forms can also be picked up and dropped off at MacPherson Law Center and online registration outside of Facebook is available at: https://secure.getmeregistered.com/get_information.php?event_id=134630.

Race Director Cynthia MacPherson thanks everyone for their support through the years and to specifically let the public know that, as in years past, any local student or athlete from the area who wants to participate can do so at no cost. They only need to contact MacPherson Law Center at 417-926-0199 or contact Cynthia directly at 417-259-3170. “We are so very excited to encourage all young athletes participation and will assist in anyway we can, to include providing appropriate gear if necessary,” she said.

Over the years, various local organizations have participated as volunteers in order to raise funds for their organizations. Groups in the past have included the Boy Scouts, YMCA and Mountain Grove girls softball and archery teams.

The most long lived of these organizations is the Mountain Grove Lions Club, who have been assisting in putting on this event for the last 10 years. In fact, the Lions Club is now the backbone and major movers and shakers of this event. Besides the Lions assistance at this year‘s event, the Mountain Grove girls volleyball team and FFA will be marking athletes, assisting entry and exit from the lake, out on the course giving directions and aid, as well as manning the water stations. A few members of Mountain Grove‘s track and field team will also be on hand to assist.

“The Lions Club would like to express its sincere appreciation to MacPherson Law Center for its unwavering support over the years of not just the Lions Club, but multiple youth-focused organizations in the community,” said Lions Club President Ray Richey. “This has given the Lions Club the chance to work with numerous young volunteers and in doing so enable the Lions to show these young folks how wonderful Mountain Grove really is.”
