Lady Pirates’ season ends in districts

The Norwood Lady Pirates season came to an official end last Saturday with a tough, 61-36, loss to Cabool (14-9) in the Class 2, District 10 Tournament. The loss ended head coach Adam Hill’s first season on the Lady Bulldogs’ court after a 3-23 campaign.

Norwood had two more victories than they finished with a season ago.

Before the regular season schedule came to an end, the Lady Pirates fared better in a match-up with Cabool.

Though they lost, they scored more than 50 points in the 65-52 defeat.

Norwood trailed by just three points at the end of the first quarter before rallying tie the game at halftime, 26-26.

Cassie Chadwell scored nine points in the first quarter and six in the second for a 15-point first half.

Autumn Gunter provided the offensive spark in the third quarter with eight points. Unfortunately, Cabool won the quarter, 21-13, and went on to win the game by 13 points.

Chadwell finished with 19 points; Gunter had 16; Loran Mooney scored 12 points; Hailey Hall had three points; and Chloe Tinsley score two points.

On Feb. 15, the Lady Pirates’ offense struggled as they scored nine points or less in all four quarters for a 62-27 loss to Conway.

Chadwell scored all eight of Norwood’s first quarter points, but was held to just four points in the final three quarters.

She led Norwood with 12 points.

Gunter had eight points; Cassie Wright scored three points; while both Kinley Sinning and Hall had two points.
