The Mansfield Lady Lions softball team clinched a Summit Conference title last week after a come-from-behind victory over rival Hartville, 9-6.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the girls,” said Mansfield head coach Aaron Gray. “With COVID, being out of school the past two weeks and having to arrange rides to games, the girls have done amazingly well through all of it.”

In the win over the Lady Eagles, the Lady Lions jumped out to a 5-0 by the end of the second inning.

Megan Langley hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning that scored Chloe Lemons. The three runs scored in their second at-bat came on a Lauren Jones, bases-clearing double that scored three runs.

Hartville answered with two runs in the fourth before plating four in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead.

Fortunately for the Lady Lions, their offense answered in the bottom of the fifth with four runs of their own. Madalyn Ivy smacked a two-run home run to score Ashlynn Heil for a 9-6 lead and Mansfield never looked back.

Jones had four RBIs and one run scored; Megan Langley and Ivy each had two RBIs and one run scored; Hailey Nelson added three hits and scored twice; while Macie Tate, Maddie Coble, Lemons and Heil each scored one run.

Langley picked up the win on the mound after allowing five earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

Hartville’s offense was led by Jenna Kelley and Madalynn Vaughn. Both had one RBI and two runs scored. Carly Calton had two RBIs; Jerra Cureton had one RBI and one run scored; Shyla Jordan had one RBI; and Molly Brown scored one run.

Hartville pitcher Rami Murr picked up the loss on the mound after allowing six earned runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts. She also gave up the two home runs.

Before the game against Hartville, the Lady Lions did start their week off with a 13-4 win over Gainesville.

Mansfield scored eight runs in the second inning to go up 10-0 and cruised to the win behind an 11-hit attack.

Langley had a two-run home run in the second inning.

Ten different Lady Lions scored a run in the game. More impressively, seven different Lady Lions had two RBIs in the win.

Lauren Jones, Tyra Lansdown, Tate, Coble and Langley each had two RBIs and one run scored. Morgan McGuire had three hits and two RBIs while Tyra Lansdown also had three hits. Dana Nelson, Hailey Nelson and Ashlynn Heil each scored twice.

Langley picked up the win on the mound after tossing seven innings and allowing one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Langley opened Mansfield’s game against rival with a two-run home run in the first inning. Unfortunately, that was all the damage the Lady Lions’ offense would do in a 6-2 loss to the Lady Bears.

Lauren Jones and Langley each scored one run in the loss. Langley had the loss on the mound after allowing just two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Ava’s win moved their record to 15-2.

In one more contest, the Lady Lions lost to a larger Glendale squad, 11-2.

The Lady Lions led 2-1 after the first inning, but four errors hurt them in the loss. Langley had one RBI and one run scored, Heil had one RBI while Chloe Lemons scored one run. Ivy tossed four innings on the mound and allowed four earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout. Chloe Lemons tossed two innings and allowed one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts.
