Lady Eagles hold off Lady Pirates

The Hartville Lady Eagles have 14 wins on the season. Three of them have come against in-county rival Norwood as they hosted the Lady Pirates last week and picked up a 51-36 victory.

It was a close contest early as the Lady Eagles held a slim one point edge at the end of the first quarter. McKinley Sanders scored nine of her team’s 11 points.

Meanwhile, Cassie Chadwell had six points and Loran Mooney added four for Norwood.

The Lady Pirates rallied in the second quarter as Mooney nailed three, 3-pointers for six points. Cassie Wright had five points, lifting Norwood to a rare halftime lead at 25-22.

Hartville’s defense made adjustments at halftime and ended up holding Norwood’s offense to just 11 total points in the final two quarters.

Meanwhile, Sanders scored 12 more points in the second half. She finished with a team-high 25 points. Molly Brown had nine points, Kylie Harris scored eight points and Jenna Kelley had seven points in the win for the Lady Eagles. As a team, Hartville made 11-of-22 free throw attempts.

Norwood was led by Mooney’s four 3-pointers and 18 total points. Chadwell had 11 points, Wright scored six points while Chloe Tinsley had one point.
