The Hartville Lady Eagles softball team had a difficult week as they drew a schedule filled with seven games and several tough opponents.
They managed to win their first five games before they ran out of steam with two straight losses to go 5-2 during this stretch.
Hartville did manage to get two of their victories against rival Norwood.
On Thursday, they traveled to the Lady Pirates’ field and left with a 10-4 victory. Hartville held a slim 5-3 lead through five innings before their four runs in the seventh helped them pull away for a win. Their offense had 12 hits while the Lady Pirates’ defense made 10 errors.
Five different Hartville players had at least two RBIs in the win.
Centauri Todd had two RBIs and three runs scored; Emma Cook had two RBIs and scored twice; while Zoey Jordan, Emilee Coday and McKinley Sanders each had two RBIs. Breyanna Flachsmann scored twice while Molly Brown and Brooklyn Kline each scored one run. Rami Murr tossed seven innings on the mound and allowed three earned runs on nine hits. Norwood’s offense was led by Cassie Chadwell, who had two hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Annie Sullivan had one RBI; Cadence Jarrett added three hits and two runs scored; and Campbell had one run scored. Chadwell tossed seven innings and allowed just two earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts.
Hartville opened their week with an 11-1 victory over Seymour after a six-run third inning helped them to pull away. The Lady Eagles had 14 hits in the win.
Breyanna Flachsmann paced the offense with three hits, one RBI and two runs scored while Allexus Walker had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Jenna Kelley had two RBIs and one run scored; Jordan had two RBIs; Coday had two hits, one RBI and one run scored; Brown had one RBI and one run scored; Cook scored twice; Centuari Todd had one RBI; and both Ella Boyer and Sanders added one run scored.
Murr tossed five innings of shutout ball on the mound and allowed six hits. She also struck out five batters.
One day later, the Lady Eagles traveled to Dixon and left with a 4-2 victory. With the game tied at 2-2 heading into extra innings, Hartvile’s offense made their charge with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Breyanna Flachsmann first had an RBI single followed one batter later by Kelley’s RBI single. Murr then pitched her way to a three up, three down inning to seal the win. Jordan led the offense with two hits, one RBI and one run scored while Centauri Todd, Breyanna Flachsmann and Kelley each had one RBI. Katia Todd and Jolina Bettendorf each scored one run. Murr picked up the win on the mound after allowed two earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts. A four RBI game for Emma Cook paced the Lady Eagles in their 15-6 win over Dadeville. Cook finished with four RBIs and three runs scored in the big win. Brown also had four RBIs and added one run scored; Coday had three RBIs and one run scored; Kelley scored three times and had one RBI; Centauri Todd had one RBI and two runs scored; Sanders had one RBI and one run scored; while Bettendorf, Walker and Breyanna Flachsmann each had one RBI. Murr tossed seven innings of shutout ball and allowed seven hits with six strikeouts.
In the Pride Park Tournament held over the weekend in Bakersfield, the Lady Pirates opened with a 10-8 win over Norwood to beat the Lady Pirates for the second time in three days.
They followed that win with a 10-5 loss to a Willow Springs squad they just beat a week before by 15 runs. Their second loss came in the third place game to Gainesville, 4-3. (No statistics available at press time for tournament games.)
