Hartville’s Lady Eagles softball team entered this week’s Class 2, District 1 Tournament as the surprising No. 3 seed in spite of their 15-8 record. Kelly was the top seed in spite of a 12-14 overall record that includes a loss to the No. 2 seed from Chaffee, who entered the postseason at 15-9.
If Hartville won its opener against Gainesville and won their semifinals game just after press time, they will play for a district title at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff.
Before the postseason, the Lady Eagles did manage to beat the same Gainesville team, 4-1.
The Lady Eagles led 4-0 through five innings before the Lady Bulldogs got on the board in the sixth.
Rami Murr tossed a complete game allowing one earned run on nine hits with six strikeouts.
Offensively, McKinley Sanders and Molly Brown each had one RBI; Breyanna Flachsmann scored twice; while both Jenna Kelley and Centauri Todd scored one run.
Hartville did have two losses as they fell to Dora, 7-4, and Marion C. Early, 7-3. (No statistics were made available as of press time.)
