Joyce Lynne Gorsek, daughter of the late Fred Gorsek Sr. and Harriet (Blue) Gorsek, was born Jan. 15, 1948, in Springfield, Ill., and departed this life June 13, 2021, near Rogersville. She was 73 years, 4 months and 29 days of age. Joyce grew up in Springfield and Athens, Ill., and attended Athens High School. She retired from the state of Illinois where she worked in Human Health Services. She was a life-long cowgirl who enjoyed her horses and mules, showing horses, competitions and trail rides. Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Gorsek, Jr. Joyce is survived by three sons, Wayne Gorsek, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mike Gorsek, of Springfield, Ill.; and Eric Gargan, of California; grandchildren, Justin Smith, of Springfield, Ill.; Fred W. Gorsek, Johann Gorsek, Eva Gorsek and Milani Gorsek, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends that have been touched by her life. Funeral services for Joyce Gorsek were held Friday, June 18, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Cold Creek Cowboy Church, Ava, with Pastor Johnny Williams officiating. Wayne Gorsek, Mike Gorsek, Justin Smith, Fred Gorsek and Johann Gorsek served as pallbearers. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Springfield, Ill., on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at 12 p.m. under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.
