Jacob Grant Spiva was born June 20, 1984, in Springfield, and passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, at his home in Springfield. He was 36 years, 7 months and 9 days of age.

Jake grew up in Mountain Grove and graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 2003. During his school years, Jake participated in many activities and clubs including choir, being a drum major for the Panther Pride Marching Band and starring in many drama club productions. He was also very active in fundraising activities for the American Cancer Society and served on the local Relay for Life Committee. Jake completed the Culinary Arts program at Ozarks Technical Community College in Springfield. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing incredible meals for his family and friends. Jake’s creative talents also extended to art and floral design, and he lent his talents to many weddings, funerals and other events.

Jake was preceded in death by his father, Johnny Spiva; his brother, Corey Spiva; and his paternal grandparents, John and Edna (Cantrell) Spiva. Jake is survived by his mother, Charlotte (Walker) Spiva; his sister, Hillary (Spiva) Mumaw and her husband, Tim; his niece, Hazel Mumaw; and his maternal grandparents, Don and Carole (Hightower) Walker, all of Mountain Grove. He was also loved by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Jake will be remembered as having an infectious laugh, a song in his heart, a larger than life personality and a generous spirit. Memorial Visitation for Jake Spiva was held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, from 4-6 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
