Herbert Dean Hamilton, 89 of Cabool/Mountain Grove, departed this life on Feb. 26, 2022 at the Autumn Oaks Nursing Home in Mountain Grove. He was born the oldest of eight children to Herbert David and Nova Faye (Lewis) Hamilton. Dean attended Union, a country school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Cabool High School with the Class of 1950. Upon graduation, he joined the US Air Force, serving the majority of his time in Iceland and his final deployment in Florida. Following his discharge, he made his home in West Palm Beach, Fla. to be near his brother, Dale. During this time, he was employed at the Pontiac Dealership in West Palm Beach. Dean’s love for cars led to his involvement in stock car racing. He and Dale spent many hours at the track working on and racing the cars. Dean was united in marriage to Pauline Stewart and to this union one son was born, Paul Dean Roberts. Dean returned to Cabool in 1960 and was employed as a mechanic at Honeycutt Chevrolet and later at Romines Ford. He was well know as an excellent mechanic and many patrons requested him for their repairs. Following retirement, he traveled with his brother, Neil, to North Carolina and purchased a new sawmill and operated it for several years. Also, in retirement, one of his favorite pastimes was assisting friends who had purchased or sold vehicles out of town. Pickup and delivery offered lots of times to visit and reminisce about the “good ol days.” Dean also enjoyed eating at “The Grove” in Mountain Grove, another opportunity to visit with friends.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Faye Hamilton; his first wife, Pauline; an infant sister, Nova Faye and a brother, Kenneth Dale Hamilton. He is survived by his son, Paul Roberts and wife, Paula, of West Plains; granddaughters, Pauline Roberts, Lily Roberts and Rachael Hazen, of West Plains; great grandchildren, Ella Roberts and Cohen Haggerty, of West Plains; brothers, Neil Hamilton and wife, Beth, Jim Hamilton and Charles Hamilton, all of Cabool; sisters, Medora Hunter, of Cabool, and Fayetta Pendergrass and husband, Bob, of West Plains; as well as many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Cabool Cemetery with Terry Brown officiating. Interment was in the Cabool Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home of Cabool. Online condolences may be made at www.egcfuneralhome.com.
