Hartville Lady Eagles season ends in district semifinals

Posted

Things appeared to be lining up for the Hartville Lady Eagles softball team when they took part in last week’s Class 2, District 1 Tournament.

Hartville first won their opening round game and then the No. 7 seed from Greenville upset No. 2 seed Chaffee, giving the Lady Eagles a more favorable match-up in the semifinals. Unfortunately, the change in opponent did not help Hartville as the Lady Eagles’ season came to an end with a loss just one game shy of the district finals.

Against the Greenville Lady Bears, a team that was under .500, Hartville gave up nine runs in the top of the fifth inning and ended up falling, 14-8.

Greenville’s offense had 18 hits in the victory.

Rami Murr tossed five innings and allowed seven earned runs on 16 hits with one strikeout. Breyanna Flachsmann lasted two innings and allowed four earned runs on two hits with one strikeout.

Offensively, Centauri Todd led the Lady Eagles with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Emilee Coday, Taryn Flachsmann and Zoey Jordan each had one RBI while Jolina Bettendorf, Molly Brown and Katia Todd each scored one run.

In the first round, the Lady Eagles knocked off Gainesville for the second time in 11 days. This time, their 10-hit attack lifted them to a 5-1 win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Murr was dynamite on the mound as she tossed seven innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts.

Breyanna Flachsmann paced Hartville with three hits, two RBIs and one run scored. Taryn Flachsmann had one RBI; McKinley Sanders scored twice; while Katia Todd, and Allexus Walker scored one run.

Before the postseason, the Lady Eagles lost their final three regular season contest.

Against a good Marion C. Early team on Oct. 4, the Lady Eagles lost, 7-3.

Hartville scored one run in three of their final four at-bats, but they were not able to get any closer. Murr tossed four and a third innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits with one strikeout. Breyanna Flachsmann went one and two-thirds innings. She gave up no runs or hits and struck out three.

Coday led the offense with two RBIs; Centauri Todd had one RBI; and Sanders scored twice.

Against a good Class 1 Dora team one day later, four errors hurt the Lady Eagles in a 7-4 loss.

Centauri Todd had three hits, one RBI and one run scored while Molly Brown had one RBI. Jenna Kelley, Breyanna Flachsmann and Bettendorf each scored one run. On the road in Lebanon for the regular season finale, the Lady Eagles could not match-up with a larger Lady Yellow Jackets’ program in a 12-1 loss. Centauri Todd had two hits while Jordan had one RBI.

Murr allowed just two earned runs over one and two-thirds innings. She also allowed seven hits and struck out one batter. Breyanna Flachsmann tossed two and a third innings of shutout ball. She allowed no hits.

Hartville finished the season with a conference championship and a 16-10 overall record.
