Hartville knocks off Lady Panthers

It was a low scoring affair early on in the inter-county showdown last Monday between Hartville and Mountain Grove.

Both teams combined to score just eight total points in the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles found their groove though outscoring the Lady Panthers, 38-28, in the final three quarters to pick up a 44-30 victory.

After both teams struggled in the first quarter, Hartville’s offense got going before halftime when Jenna Kelley scored six points. Hannah Keith added a 3-pointer to put the Lady Eagles up 19-9 at halftime.

Raylee Stenzel scored six points in the third for Mountain Grove, but her effort was not enough to overcome the performance of McKinley Sanders. She scored 11 points in the third as Hartville scored 16 points to push their lead to 13.

Hartville went on to win the fourth quarter to seal the 14-point win.

Sanders led the Lady Eagles with 21 points, Kelley had 10 points, Molly Brown scored seven points while both Kylie Harris and Keith scored three points.

The Lady Panthers were led by Stenzel’s 11 points. Jozey MacPherson had eight points, Campbell Welch had five points, Reagan Hoerning scored four points and Kaily Wake added two points.

On Dec. 16, the Lady Eagles crushed Plato, 53-19. Hartville scored 15 points in the first quarter for a 15-6 lead.

Kelley hit two 3-pointers before halftime and Sanders had seven points as Hartville led 35-13 at halftime.

The Lady Eagles went on to win the game by 34 points. Both Kelley and Sanders scored 15 points, Brown had 11, Hannah Keith scored seven points, Kaylee Ferguson had four points and Erin Still scored one point.
