Hartville Eagles win five in a row

The Hartville Eagles baseball team entered this week’s Summit Conference Tournament riding a seven game winning streak after winning their two lone contests a week ago by just one run.

Against Galena, the Bears jumped out to a 5-0 first inning.

Hartville responded through the middle innings by scoring six runs as the game was tied at 6-6 entering the bottom of the sixth inning.

Hartville then scored two runs to take the lead.

In Galena’s last at-bat, they scored one run, but the Eagles were able to end the game on a double play for an 8-7 win.

Brody McNiel paced Hartville with two hits, three RBIs and one run scored while both Eric Wilson and Ethan McDaris had one RBI and one run scored.

Rory Kirkpatrick added three hits and one RBI; and one run was scored by Grant Culver, Hunter Lowery, Dakota Stigall and Isaac Boyer.

Justin Parker earned the win on the mound after tossing six and two-thirds innings and allowing two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. Stigall tossed one third of an inning and allowed five earned runs on three hits with one strikeout.

On Sep. 30, McDaris had a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Eagles to a 14-13 win over Conway in a game featuring 24 hits.

Conway had scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 13-11 lead before the Eagles scored three runs in their final at-bat.

During the rally, McNiel had a big RBI triple and Kirkpatrick added an RBI single.

Kirkpatrick finished the game with two hits, four RBIs and one run scored while McNiel tallied three hits, two RBIs and three runs scored. Parker had two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored; Wilson had one RBI and scored three times; McDaris had two RBIs and one run scored; Stigall had two RBIs; while Culver scored one time.

On the mound, Jalon Cryer lasted two innings and allowed four runs on two hits with one strikeout. Lowery went one and a third innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with one strikeout. Stigall tossed three and two-thirds innings and allowed one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts.
