When basketball teams get past the first week of February, it is important for them to catch some momentum in time for the district tournament.
The Hartville Eagles have done just that by winning three games last week to move their winning streak to six straight with a 16-7 overall record.
The Eagles opened their week by traveling to Summit Conference foe Conway and leaving with a 56-21 victory.
Hartville opened the game with a 21-point first quarter as Logan Simpson hit two 3-pointers. Eric Wilson added six points and Grant Culver scored five.
Leading 31-15 at halftime, Hartville had five different players score in the third quarter to push the lead to 23.
Jackson Ward scored five points in the fourth to help the Eagles seal the win.
Wilson scored a team-high 11 points; both Brody McNeil and Culver had 10 points; Ward added eight points; Simpson scored seven points; Jalon Cryer had six points; and Jacob Ballard had four points.
The Eagles followed that big win by simply dominating Greenfield on Homecoming night, 68-10.
Hartville opened the contest with a 22-point first frame as Wilson scored nine points and both Culver and Simpson made 3-point shots.
Wilson added two more 3-pointers in the second quarter and another eight points to pace the Eagles to a 42-5 halftime lead.
Hartville’s defense then held Greenfield to just five total points in the second half.
Payton Cogdill led the Eagles with all eight of his points in the second half.
Ten different players scored in the 58-point victory.
Wilson finished with a team-high 19 points; McNiel scored 11; Culver had 10 points; Cogdill had eight; Haylon Bel had five points; both Ballard and Cryer scored four points; Simpson had three points; and both Lane Hughes and McDaris had two points.
In a rescheduled game played on Saturday in Sparta, the Eagles picked up a solid, 49-32, win over the Trojans.
It was a close contest early on against Sparta as the Eagles trailed by one at the end of the first quarter.
Ballard had five points early to lead the Eagles.
He added another six points in the second to spark Hartville’s comeback for a four-point halftime edge.
In the third quarter, Simpson came up big with a 3-pointer and five total points as five different players scored.
Simpson then helped to seal the win in the fourth with nine points as Hartville cruised to a 17-point victory.
Simpson scored a team-high 14 points for the Eagles. Ballard had 13; Wilson scored 11 points; McNiel had six points; Culver added three points; while Ward scored two points.
