Hartville Eagles drop two after Classic win

It was a let down week for the Hartville Eagles baseball team just a few days after opening their season with a Conway Fall Classic title.

They came off three quality wins by dropping two of their last three games.

Their lone win came on Aug. 30 as they crushed Fordland, 11-1, after scoring at least one run in all but the first inning.

Hartville’s four run fifth inning helped them seal the win in spite of the defense making four errors.

Eric Wilson came up big with two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Hunter Lowery paced the Eagles with three runs scored; Justin Parker had two RBIs; Kolton Cogdill added one RBI and one run scored; Rory Kirkpatrick scored twice; Grant Culver had one RBI; while Isaac Boyer and Hunter Delcour score one run.

On the mound, Dakota Stigall tossed a complete game shutout as he gave up no earned runs in seven innings and allowed three hits with five strikeouts.

Hartville followed up their victory with a tough 7-3 loss against a solid Licking program.

Hartville’s defense made five errors as Licking’s offense did just enough to get the win.

Kirkpatrick had two hits while Brody McNiel, Cogdill and Wilson each scored one run.

On the mound, Jacob Cryer allowed two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts in three innings of work. Lowery tossed three innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts.

Against Seymour, the Tigers scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on to a 3-1 win over the Eagles.

Culver and Parker had the lone hits while Kirkpatrick had one RBI.

McNiel tossed six and one third innings on the mound and allowed two earned runs on one hit with 10 strikeouts.

In the Conway Tournament, Hartville’s five run third inning helped them to a 6-2 win over Gainesville.

Kirkpatrick had two hits, three RBIs and one run scored; Lowery had two RBIs; Culver had one RBI and one run scored; Wilson scored twice; while Parker and Boyer each scored one run.

McNiel went four and two-thirds innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits with 12 strikeouts.

Lowery tossed the final one and a third innings of shutout and hitless ball. He had one strikeout.

In the win over Dora, Hartville scored 10 runs in the fifth inning and had 10 hits in the game en route to a 16-1 win.

McNiel had three hits, four RBIs and two runs scored; Boyer had two hits, four RBIs and three runs scored; Lowery had three RBIs and one run scored; Delcour added two RBIs and one run scored; Wilson had one RBI and three runs scored; both Cogdill and Kirkpatrick scored twice; and Parker scored one time.

Stigall went four innings on the mound and allowed one earned run, no hits and eight strikeouts.

Combined with Delcour, the two pitchers had a no-hitter.

Delcour went one inning and allowed goose eggs across the board.

He did have one strikeout.

In the finals with Dixon, the Eagles scored five runs between the fifth and sixth innings to pull away for a 7-2 win

McNiel had two RBIs; Parker and Boyer and one RBI and one run scored; Kirkpatrick scored twice; Parker and Wilson each scored once and had one RBI; while Lowery and Delcour each scored one run. Hartville will take on Gainesville Sep. 9 and Mansfield Sep. 10 at 4:30 p.m. on the Eagles’ home diamond.
