Hartville Eagles are back-to-back Blue & Gold Champions

Posted

Last season, the Hartville Eagles celebrated their first Blue & Gold Tournament championship since 1996.

This season, they didn’t have to wait nearly as long for their third title as they became back-to-back champions last Thursday when they knocked off big school Nixa, 57-46, in the finals of the Blue Division.

“When I first started coaching, I always thought that in my wildest dreams, (it) would never happen, that we would win the Blue and Gold,” said Hartville head coach Brett Reed. “To win two now, it’s almost surreal. It’s a credit to the kids…I’m blessed to be their coach.”

Reed was happy his team was able to beat a Nixa squad that edged them out at the free throw line in a regular season match-up last year.

“Any time that you can just compete with Nixa, you feel good about it,” Reed said. “They’re a hall of fame program with a hall of fame coach.”
