Hartville cross country sweeps team titles in area races

It was a clean sweep for both the Hartville boys and girls cross country teams as they won the Mountain Grove Open on the Panthers’ new course Sep. 28.

The Eagles won the team title with 61 points, holding off second place Cabool by 16.

Zachary Jones paced the Eagles with a ninth place finish (19:52.80). Jacob Ballard was 15th (20:29.83), Logan Simpson was 16th (20:37.97), Ty Smith took 23rd (21:20.40), Harley Dumas was 25th (21:30.07), Caleb Long finished 26th (21:34.25) and Lane Hughes was 33rd (22:05.85).

The Lady Eagles defeated the host Lady Panthers by nine points to win their team title.

Clemmie Taylor led Hartville with a ninth place finish (24:05.96). Kaylee Ferguson was 15th (26:09.14), Abby Moseley came in 18th (26:38.50), Lucie Taylor took 19th (26:40.60) and Rileigh Sinning was 21st (27:09.34).

At the Hermitage Invite, the Lady Eagles were led by Taylor’s 14th place time of 23:35.38. Taylor was 27th (25:08.98) and Ferguson took 32nd (25:56.97).

On the boys side in a loaded field, Jones had the best finish with a 34th place time of 20:24.24. Simpson was 36th (20:30.10).

Prior to that race, both teams swept the contest in Plato.

The Lady Eagles beat Conway by 15 points to win the team title as all five runners were in the Top-20.

Clemmie Taylor was seventh (24:58.53), Moseley took 12th (26:12.84), Ferguson was 15th (27:21.78), Sinning was 17th (27:30.80) and Lucie Taylor finished 20th (29:06.18).

The Eagles won the team title for the boys race as seven runners were in the Top-27.

Jones was fifth (18:40.06), Simpson took eighth (19:29.06), Ballard finished ninth (19:45.63), Smith was 16th (20:41.93), Long was 17th (20:44.60), Dumas took 23rd (21:24.22) and Hughes was 27th (21:47.23).

As for the middle school race, Kirsten Corley was 16th (19:46.22) and Claire Dickinson was 26th (21:43.88) for the Lady Eagles. Caleb Dugger took 33rd (20:33.85) in the boys race.
