The Hartville Eagles once again won the regular season title in the Summit Conference last week when they beat Gainesville in a rescheduled contest, 73-59.

Hartville’s win moved their overall record to 25-0 on the season as the Eagles finished the regular slate with an undefeated record and are the top team in the Class 3 state rankings.

Not many times this season have the Eagles found themselves trailing at the end of the first quarter, but they did against Gainesville.

Gainesville made four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 20-15 lead.

Hartville responded though before halftime by outscoring Gainesville, 25-10, to take a 10-point lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Ryce Piper scored nine points to help Hartville push their lead by 17.

Though Gainesville rallied late, the Eagles went on to win the game by 14 points.

Piper finished the game with a team-high 21 points. Braden Branstetter tallied 18 points; Cody Mahan added 14 points; Eli Cook was the fourth player in double figures after scoring 12 points; and Brady Ward had eight points.
