Geraldine “Jeri” Shannon, daughter of the late Noble and Mildred (Hines) McGowan, was born Jan. 25, 1947, in Douglas County, Missouri, and passed away July 9, 2021, at her home in Fordland. She was 74 years, 5 months and 15 days of age. Jeri was raised in Douglas County and attended school in Cabool, and then William Chrisman High School in Independence, where she graduated. Jeri married Howard Shannon on Nov. 10, 1964, in Independence. One son was born to this union. Jeri worked as a teacher’s aide for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening. She liked to read and would often complete a book each week. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends. Jeri was preceded in death by her parents, Noble and Mildred McGowan.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Shannon, of Fordland; one son, Philip Shannon, of Springfield; one grandchild, Savannah; two sisters, Phyllis Shannon and her husband, Calvin, of Fordland; and Lauralee Rogers, of Springfield; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Graveside memorial services for Geraldine Shannon were held Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mountain Grove. With Mike Knotts officiating and Dave Keeler serving as musician.
