George Newton Davis

George Newton Davis, son of the late Julian and Vada (Coday) Davis, was born Jan. 6, 1929, in Mansfield, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 25, 2022, in Rogersville. He was 93 years and 19 days of age. George grew up in Mansfield and graduated from Mansfield High School in 1947. After graduating, he moved to Kansas City, where he went to work. George met Betty Stockstill, who was the love of his life, and they were married on Oct. 17, 1953, in Kansas City. This union was blessed with three children, John, Sandra and Mary. After raising his family and retirement, George and Betty moved back to George’s hometown, Mansfield. George enjoyed woodworking, traveling and helping his wife in the garden. He was a kind and generous man, who will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Besides his parents, George was preceded in death by one brother, John Davis, and one sister, Margaret Ghan. He is survived by one son, John Davis and his wife, Tammy, of Raytown; two daughters, Sandra DeWilligen and her husband, Bill, of Floyds Knobs, Ind.; and Mary Guinn and her husband, Ron, of Springfield; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation for George Davis was held Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, from 10-11 a.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mansfield. Funeral services followed the visitation at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, with Jim Posey officiating. Eulogy was given by John Davis. Pallbearers were his grandsons, Dave Davis, Joseph Davis, Matthew Davis, Micah Davis, Sam Davis and Noah Davis. Song selections were “Long Black Train” and “By The Grace of God.” Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mansfield.
