Genevieve Elaine (Williams) Ellis

Genevieve Elaine (Williams) Ellis, daughter of the late Leonard D. and Cleta Nadine (McCall) Williams, was born Jan. 2, 1947, in Fowler, and passed away Aug. 8, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was 73 years, 7 months and 6 days of age. Genevieve began school at Fowler but transferred to Mountain Grove when she was in elementary school and graduated from Mountain Grove High School. Genevieve married Mack Ellis on Sep. 13, 1968.  Two children were born to this union, Michelle and Doug. Genevieve ran Triangle Restaurant for a few years and then began helping Mack milk on their farm. When Mack’s health declined, Genevieve took over the farm and milked the cows herself.  She later worked as a CNA and was also a caregiver to the elderly. Genevieve loved fishing and traveling. She loved going to new places, seeing new things and trying new restaurants. Genevieve was able to travel to Hawaii, the Grand Canyon and went to Devil’s Tower in Gillette, Wyo. She also truly loved people and greatly enjoyed caring for others.

Besides her parents, Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Ellis, and by two sisters, Gretha McGowan and Geraldean Barnett. She is survived by her son, Doug Ellis and his wife, Lea Ann, of Mountain Grove; her daughter, Michelle Ellis, of Springfield; two sisters, Geneva Ellis and Gwen Wakeman; four grandchildren, Jesse Ellis, Jae Ellis, Shelby Sarrgent and Emily Sarrgent; and other relatives and friends who will dearly miss her. Graveside services for Genevieve Ellis were held Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Green Mountain Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Schwertfeger officiating. Song selections were “Go Rest High On That Mountain” and “Holes In The Floor Of Heaven.” Jae Ellis, Jesse Ellis, Donnie Ellis, Ethan Ellis, Steven Coble, AJ Ellis and Dody Buttram served as pallbearers. Burial was in Green Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research or Wright County Children’s Home in care of the funeral home.
