Four cross country programs compete in local race

The Randel-Hinkle Golf Course was the host site for the 12-team Mountain Grove Open cross country race last Tuesday.

All four Wright County school districts had runners compete in the big event.

Mountain Grove

Mountain Grove’s Brayden Hensley won the 5,000-meter run with his time of 18:11.06. He held off a runner from Hartville by 22 seconds. As team, the Panthers were second overall as the Eagles won for team points.

Andrew Norris finished fourth place overall with his time of 19:15.37. Other Panthers in the race were Trenton Harker (20:27.35), Dale Shaeffer (20:39.32), Owen Nelson (23:36.45), Levi Alluisi (23:41.38) and Charles Norman (23:48.93).

The Lady Panthers were led by Macey Penner, who finished third overall with a time of 21:49.53. Abby Fry was also in the Top-15 with her 11th place time of 25:34.56.

Kimberlie Busalaki was 16th (26:49.50) while Haylee Proctor (30:18.78), Raleigh Holman (34:14.21), Trinity Elliott (34:14.22) and Belle Bohnenkamp (35:31.47) also competed.

As a team, Mountain Grove finished third.

Hartville

Both the Hartville boys and girls cross country teams won the Mountain Grove race in team points.

The boys were led by Bryce Coday’s second place time of 18:33.13. Just behind him finished Joshua Bettendorf with a third place time of 18:59.76. Also in the Top-15 were Weston Williams (19:29.93) in seventh, Keegan Kirkpatrick in 10th (19:27.63) and Caleb Long in 14th (20:02.68).

Ty Smith also competed (23:25.83).

The Lady Eagles had four Top-15 performances. Clemmie Taylor was sixth overall with her time of 23:03.25. Autumn Johnson was 10th (24:57.55), Courtney Miller took 12th (25:40.23) and Abby Moseley was 14th (25:52.55).

Emma Cook was 19th (27:39.24) and Kaylee Ferguson was 20th (27:47.60) rounded out all six runners finishing in the Top-20 overall.

Mansfield

Both of Mansfield’s girls cross country runners continued their successful season as both finished in the Top-15.

Skylar Adams was fourth place overall with a time of 22:00.65 while Caige Henry was 15h (26:09.49).

As for the boys, the Lions did manage to place sixth overall as a team.

Brady Corder led the Lions with his 21st place time of 20:36.73. Other runners included Bryce Bolfing (21:51.00), Chase Kelley (23:25.61), Trey Ussery (25:29.48), Scott Mason (26:26.95), Jake McDermitt (26:56.93) and Clayton Price (27:09.53).

Norwood

The Norwood Pirates best finish came from Ben Smith, who placed in the Top-15 with a time of 20:13.11. Gabe Todd (22:00.66) and Cameron Kelly (22:50.37) also competed.

Lydia Smith was the lone Lady Pirates’ runner and she was in 17th place with a time of 27:08.62.
