Esther “Deloris” Spencer

Esther “Deloris” Spencer, daughter of the late Lester and Clyda (Harlamert) Lawler, was born Feb. 4, 1940, in Wright County, Missouri, and passed away at her home in Grovespring, May 6, 2020. She was 80 years, 3 months and 2 days of age. Deloris spent most of her life in the St. George community in Wright County, Missouri. Deloris became a Christian at the age of 12. She graduated from Hartville High School with the Class of 1957. Deloris married Leroy Spencer on April 18, 1958, in Hernando, Miss. Four children were born to this union. Leroy passed away on July 13, 2008. Deloris was a homemaker and loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens.  She enjoyed raising bottle calves, crocheting and fishing. She also loved getting to eat a plate of fish. 

Besides her parents and her husband, Deloris was preceded in death by one son, Wade Spencer, and by three brothers. She is survived by three daughters, Tammy Humphrey and her husband, Joe, of Nixa; Sheila Hughes and her husband, Charley, of Pensacola, Fla.; and Kristie Mize and her husband, Timothy, of Grovespring; one brother, Kenneth Lawler, of Mountain Grove; two sisters, Yvonne Wiggins, of Dillon, Mont.; and Sandra Mack, of the state of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her.

Funeral services for Deloris Spencer were held Saturday, May 9, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with Dr. Joe Humphrey officiating. Song selections were “Great Is They Faithfulness” and “This Is Just What Heaven Means To Me.”  Jeremy Fletcher, Jennifer Rutherford, Misti Chitwood, Adam Spencer, Brooke Spencer, Traci Payne, Heather Parker, Kody Payne, Kassidy Hampel, Kayla Payne and James Mize served as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Hospice in care of the funeral home.
