Ervin Wayne Helsley, son of M.B. and Vera Helsley was born on Dec. 18, 1959 in Springfield. He departed this life peaceful in his home on Oct. 19, 2020 at the age of 60.
He was preceded in death by his father and a niece. As a child growing up, Ervin enjoyed spending time with his siblings and cousins; going to their granny’s house to play on the farm. Ervin loved being outdoors and could entertain himself for hours just by hitting a rock with a stick or skipping rocks on the river. He was known for his good looks, charm and his talent as a basketball player during his high school days. Ervin loved to have fun and spent his life enjoying simple pleasures like dirt road drives and pleasant conversations. He loved to visit and tease the ones he loved. He spared no sarcastic remark or tall tale when it came to conversation either. Talks with Erv were never boring! Although he didn’t have children of his own, Ervin was very fond of all of his nieces and nephews and loved to spend time with them, doing whatever they liked to do. He’s done thousands of “flips” and had spent countless hours playing video games, cards or whatever else they came up with. Ervin made sure that his family and friends knew he loved them and he will be fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.
Due to COVID-19, the family will be privately celebrating Ervin’s life, public memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
