Eagles cruise past Lions in rivalry match-up

When the Hartville and Mansfield boys basketball teams had their rivalry game last Tuesday, it was all Eagles from the start as they cruised to an 89-32 victory over the Lions. Mansfield’s Chase Cartwright did score the Lions’ first four points with two early baskets for a 4-3 lead before Hartville answered with a 13-0 run. Braden Branstetter had three 3-pointers and 15 points in the quarter to put the Eagles in front 24-8.

While Branstetter added two more 3-pointers in the second quarter, Ryce Piper had nine points to give Hartville a 51-17 lead at halftime. Chade Noble did score eight points in the second quarter for the Lions.

The Eagles then outscored Mansfield, 38-15, in the second half to pull away for good.

Hartville was led by Branstetter’s 24 points and four rebounds while Piper tallied 24 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block. Brady Ward added 15 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals; Cody Mahan had seven points, five steals, four assists, four rebounds and one block; Eli Cook had added four points, 10 rebounds, there assists, two steals and one block; Dalton O’Dell had six points, three steals and two assists; Brody McNiel had five points; Bryce Coday had two points and three rebounds; and Eric Wilson added three points and two rebounds.

Mansfield was led by Noble’s 16 points, two rebounds and two assists; Cartwright had six points; Rylan Adams had four points and two assists; Tom Emerick scored three points and seven rebounds; Ethan Bennett had two points; and Dylan Henry scored one point and three rebounds. Troy Kelley had three rebounds and two assist while London Dennis had two rebounds.

Mansfield’s Homecoming game with Bradleyville Friday night was canceled due to the weather.
