Deadline is March 1 for 2021 assessment list

Posted

The Wright County Assessor’s office would like to remind everyone that the deadline for filing the 2021 assessment list is March 1, 2021.

The assessment lists were mailed on Nov. 6, 2020. The pre-printed forms includes those items that require motor vehicle licenses. The items listed will be those that were filed on the 2020 assessment forms. Taxpayers are encouraged to verify the vehicles.

Any disposed vehicles will need to be crossed through on the form. Any vehicles that were acquired in 2020 will need to be listed in the appropriate places. All livestock, farm machinery and business fixtures and equipment will need to be itemized on the list by the taxpayers.

By March 1, 2021, every owner or holder of personal property must report all taxable personal property which was owned or held by the person or business on Jan. 1, 2021.

Every year a few property owners forget to return their lists, so we make every effort to remind people to return them on time.

Those not returning a completed list to the assessor by the March 1 deadline are subject to a penalty. Penalties range from $15 to $105 depending upon the value of the property and the statutes provide the Assessor with almost no discretion to waive the penalties. These statutes were updated in 1994, making the penalties very tough.

Property owners or lessees who have not received a list are not excused from filing and should contact the Assessor’s office at P.O. Box 399, Hartville, Mo. 65667 or at 417-741-6400. Any questions about the form may be directed to the same telephone number or address.
