Posted

Through an offseason of high expectations, the Norwood Pirates basketball team could not wait to hit their home floor in the season opener last Friday night against Sparta.

They went on to score more than 50 points in the first half and cruised last to a 75-33 victory over the Trojans.

Norwood’s Gavin McGraw set the tone in the first quarter as he finished with nine of the team’s 21 points in the frame. Jacob Sinning scored five points while Peyton McDaris hit a big 3-pointer.

After being held scoreless in the first quarter. Garrett Davault took over the game just before halftime.

Davault finished with 13 of his team’s 30 points before halftime to put the Pirates in front, 51-21.

In the third quarter, Davault added 11 of the Pirates’ 15 points to extend the lead to 66-31.

With the mercy clock in effect, Dylan Calhoun added a late 3-pointer as Norwood won their opener by 42 points.

Davault finished the game with 26 points; McGraw had 13; Sinning added 11; Justin Chadwell scored eight points; McDaris finished with five points; both Max McGowan and Calhoun had three points; while both Cooper Vaughan and Noah Drake scored two points.
