When Retired Staff Sergeant Laura Crum looked at the military when in high school, she was mainly looking to benefit from the college tuition assistance program.
An active job with the Army National Guard and Army Reserves in Illinois turned into a 21-year career that eventually ended with her retirement in August 2014.
Crum said she really enjoyed working with a unit when serving.
“Mainly the camaraderie within the unit and just the fact that I knew I was doing something that was going to help my country in one way or another,” she noted.
