County cross country runners have success in Willow Springs

All four of Wright County’s cross country programs recently had success at the Steve Waggoner Invitational held in Willow Springs on Sep. 9.

Both Hartville’s boys and girls cross country teams were the top squad in Class 2 as they competed in a field featuring runnings from 42 schools.

The boys had three Top-10 finishes. Zach Jones was third, Logan Simpson placed fifth and Jacob Ballard was 10th overall.

The rest of the team includes Ty Smith, Lane Hughes, Caleb Long and Alex Parsons.

As for the Lady Eagles, Clemmie Taylor took fourth place overall as all five girls runners were in the Top-15. Kaylee Ferguson was 12th, Abby Moseley finished 13th, Lucie Taylor was 14th and Rileigh Sinning took 15th.

In Mountain Grove, the Lady Panthers were led by Lily Hines, who finished 22nd in the Class 3-5 Division to help her team place fourth in the team standings. Her time was 26:40.90. Abigail Fry (29:29.72) and Haylee Proctor (29:59.42) also had solid finishes.

Meanwhile, Andrew Norris led the boys with his eighth place finish to help the Panthers take third place overall. Brayden Hensley (20:45.51) and Trenton Harker (21:53.25) also had strong performances.

As for Norwood, Ben Smith was seventh and Cameron Kelly took 24th for Class 1.

Lydia Smith ran hard representing the Lady Pirates and placed 18th in Class 1.

Medal winners from Mansfield’s cross country program included Braxton Bolfing (no time or place provided), Faith Clark (no time or place provided) and Brady Corder (no time or place provided).

Fellow Lake 5000

Mountain Grove’s cross country runners competed in the Fellow Lake 5000 in Strafford.

Norris led the Panthers with a sixth place finish (18:40.80). Harker was 42nd (21:37.90) and Brayden Hensley took 43rd (21:41.30).

The Lady Panthers were led by Lily Hines and her 35th place time of 28:31.10. Abigail Fry was 55th (31:24.40) and Haylee Proctor was 456h (31:24.70).
