Brown Swiss, family a focus of EL JJ Dairy

Posted

Approximately 20 years ago, Emanuel Roth left his home country of Switzerland and settled down in the Grovespring area with the dreams of working his own farm in the United States.

Though the hard work led to him selling his dairy business in 2017, Emanuel, along with his wife Lesley, have jumped back into the dairy business and are now running EL JJ Dairy.

They milk about 60 heads of Brown Swiss cows that are pasture-based.

Milk is then sold to the Central Equity Co-op. It is believed that part of their milk is used at an ice cream factory.

The Roths also take care of 30 heifers and calves.

For Emanuel and Lesley, it’s a daily joy to watch their sons, Jacob and Josiah, spending time with the cows as the sons of farmers.

Most recently, the family spent some time showing livestock at the Wright County Junior Fair, held each year in Grovespring.
