Bill Hyde, son of the late Don and Dell (Cockerham) Hyde, was born Oct. 21, 1936, in Tulare, Calif., and passed away Oct. 31, 2020, at Autumn Oaks Caring Center in Mountain Grove. He was 84 years and 10 days of age. After living in California for a short time, Bill’s family moved back to Mountain Grove, where he was raised. Bill graduated from Mountain Grove High School and then joined the United States Navy. On June 9, 1956, when he was on leave, Bill married Nadine Whetstine in Cabool. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to Mountain Grove and worked at Brown Shoe Company for a short time. In 1958, he was hired by Sho-Me-Power Cooperative, where he worked for 43 years. After retirement, Bill served on the Sho-Me-Power Cooperative Board and the Se-Ma-No Board. Bill was saved and baptized at Southside Baptist Church. He and Nadine raised their family and attended Southside Baptist Church for many years. He was also a part of the church quartet. Later, he attended First Baptist Church for as long as his health permitted. In his younger years, Bill showed horses and barrel raced and has many ribbons and trophies to prove it. He was very active in the community and also coached many little league ball games. He was an avid hunter with a mounted 21-point buck. He was a golfer with many holes-in-one, and witnesses that will attest to it.  He also was a fisherman and his grandson, Steven, referred to him as a “white bass catching machine.” He also loved camping and time spent with family and friends at the lake. In 2012, his granddaughter, Shana, interviewed her grandpa Bill for a college paper. She asked if he could say one last thing to his family, what he would say.  His answer was, “Be in church and serve the Lord.”

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Nadine; one brother, Ron Hyde; and three brothers-in-law, Perry McClenahan, Carroll Foster and Louis Still. He is survived by one son, Mike Hyde and his wife, Lori; two daughters, Teresa Miller and her husband, Keith, and Karen Curtis and her husband, Dean, all of Mountain Grove; one sister, Phyllis Sullivant and her husband, Bob, of Raytown; three sisters-in-law, Mackey Queen and her husband, Jim, of Arkansas; Bobbie Still, of Ozark; and Ginny Hyde, of Mountain Grove; two brothers-in-law, Joe Whetstine and his wife, Carol Jean, and Tim Whetstine and his wife, Evelyn, all of Cabool; 15 grandchildren, Brad Sanders (Karalin), Steven Sanders, (Jenni), Andrea Rogers, (Nick), Amie Davis (Ryan), Shana O’Mary (Nick), Shaela Potter (Dakota), Michika Fangrow (Chris), Ashley Oberdiear, Jessica Heath (Clayton), Mikyla Coatney (Travis), Kyler Hyde, Preston Jarrett (Brittany), Hali Shaffer (Luke), and Jaxen and Rileigh Holman; 28 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends who will remember him fondly.
