Sherry Lyn (Mitchell) Freeman

Sherry Lyn (Mitchell) Freeman
Sherry Lyn (Mitchell) Freeman, daughter of the late Roy Everett and Beulah Fern (Varnell) Mitchell, was born Aug. 19, 1948, in Houston. She passed away at her residence in Mountain Grove on Aug. 7, 2026. She was 77 years, 11 months and 19 days of age. Sherry grew up in Cabool and her family moved to Mountain Grove when she was a child. She attended Mountain Grove schools and graduated from high school in 1966. She had a 1966 red Mustang that she loved to drive and cruise around town. After high school, at age 18, Sherry began working for Security Bank, thus starting her 53-year banking career. From Security Bank, she went to work for National Bank. Over the years, the bank went through several name changes, and Sherry continued working for them all. They included Boatman’s Bank, Bank of America, Arvest Bank and finally retiring from FNBC. She loved her job and loved meeting and visiting with all the people throughout the years. Sherry attended the First Christian Church in Mountain Grove as a child and remained a faithful member for as long as her health allowed. She was married to Norman Dale Freeman on Jan. 23, 1971, after he was discharged from the Army. One daughter, Shawna Lyn, was born to this union in July of 1977. Sherry loved being around the water and enjoyed trips to the lake, Cancun and Hawaii. She also loved visiting with family and friends and would often host gatherings at her home for snacks, dinners, and pool parties. Sherry had a servant's heart and was always willing to help others in need. She had a contagious laugh, and it didn’t take long being around her before you were laughing right along with her.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Beulah Mitchell; and her husband, Norman. She is survived by her daughter, Shawna Freeman, of Springfield; two brothers, Gary Mitchell and his wife, Kathy, of Highlandville, and Dennis Mitchell and his wife, Carolyn, of Mountain Grove; five nephews, Denver Mitchell and his wife, Jennifer, of Mountain Grove; Stuart Mitchell and his wife, Megan, of Mountain Grove; Ryan Mitchell and his wife, Lisa, of Fate, Texas; Taylor Mitchell and his wife, Elizabeth, of Defiance; and Tyler Mitchell and his wife, Jess, of Columbia; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her very much. As Sherry would say, “Well kid, this isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later.” Visitation for Sherry Freeman was held on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, from 10-11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Mountain Grove. Funeral services followed at 11 a.m., also at the church, with Bro. Jack Holland and Bro. Justin DeVries officiating. Song selections “Beulah Land” and “Going Home” were sung by Ray Bradley, accompanied by Teresa Bradley on the piano. The song “Lead Me Home” was also played. Those serving as pallbearers were Chris Holden, Denver Mitchell, Stuart Mitchell, Cooper Mitchell, Kyle Burney and J.T. Blackwell. Honorary pallbearers were Basil Carter, Kenneth Koontz, Zachariah Barbe and Mike Elam. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove.
