Rebecca “Becky” Ann (Shores) Cantrell Herrera

Rebecca “Becky” Ann (Shores) Cantrell Herrera was born on Jan. 8, 1935 to George and Alva (Frye) Shores in Norwood. She passed away peacefully on Jan. 5, 2026 in Lenexa, Kan. at 90 years of age. Becky was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom and joyful spirit. Becky will always be remembered for her deep love of family and friends. She found great joy in tending her garden, hosting gatherings, garden parties, and serving faithfully at Holmeswood Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends from Holmeswood, working puzzles and crosswords, and spending time surrounded by those she loved most. One thing Becky famously did not enjoy was squirrels, which led to many amusing stories shared among family and friends. Becky had a gentle way of offering wisdom, often beginning conversations with, “I read an article…” before sharing thoughtful insights meant to help others. She truly cared for people and showed that care through both her words and her actions. Her grandchildren will forever smile when remembering chocolate chip waffles for breakfast when they stayed the night at her house, one of the many ways Grandma Becky loved to spoil them. Just like her beautiful garden, Becky’s life reflected a generous heart, a keen eye for detail, and a spirit filled with joy. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will live on in all who knew her.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, George and Alva Shores; her first husband, Oscar Duaine Cantrell; her second husband, Joe Herrera; her son, Doug Cantrell; and her son-in-law, Jack Pollock. She is survived by her son, David Cantrell; her daughter, Lecia Pollock; her daughter-in-law, Judy Cantrell; five beloved grandchildren, Beth, Lindsey (and her husband, Tyler), Jesse, Jenna and Desiree; and four treasured great-grandchildren, Brie, Beckett, Brynley, and a great-grandchild, Brody, who is expected in March. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Becky’s honor to Little People of America, Inc. or to the Dementia Society of America. A Memorial Service was held Saturday Jan. 10, 2026, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Mountain Grove, with Pastor Dustin Byrd officiating. Song selections were “In The Garden,” “It Is Well With My Soul’ and “Amazing Grace.” Interment of her urn followed at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Mountain Grove, under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at: www.craighurttfuneralhome.com.
