Nola Faye (Thornhill) Atchison
Nola Faye (Thornhill) Atchison, daughter of the late George W. and Alma Ada (Long) Thornhill, was born June 11, 1931, on the family farm, north of Mountain Grove. She departed this life June 5, 2026, at Willow Care Center in Willow Springs at the age of almost 95 years. Nola grew up and attended school in Mountain Grove. She was united in marriage to Earl W. Atchison on February 2, 1952, in Mountain Home, Ark. Nola was employed with Brown Shoe Company for 40 years, from Dec. 7, 1953, until June 25, 1993. She faithfully attended church throughout her life until her health no longer permitted. Nola enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her sisters. She generously gave her time to help others. She also enjoyed embroidery, quilting, gardening, and participating in activities at the YMCA.
Besides her parents, Nola was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, on Sep. 25, 1999; two brothers, Lee Thornhill and Frankie Thornhill; and five sisters, Dorine Peterson, Jean Littrell, Pauline Allen, Glenda Cooper and Donna Fletcher. Nola is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors who will miss her dearly. Funeral services were held on Friday, June12, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Cannon officiating. Special songs were “Amazing Grace” and “Sweet Beulah Land” by Bonnie Peterson, Marcie Stumpff and Charlotte Yarger. Ed Peterson, Greg Stumpff, Nathan Yarger, Anthony Peterson, David Goodman and Mike Leonard served as pallbearers while Kenny Littrell, Derek Christeson, Daren Christeson, Zachary Stumpff, Gage Yarger and Zander Yarger served as honorary pallbearers.
