Homer Alvin Mackey
Homer Alvin Mackey was born on Jan. 31, 1956, in Mission, Texas, and passed away on June 12, 2025, at the Kabul Nursing Home in Cabool.
He lived a life characterized by dedication and service, contributing significantly to his community. Alvin was united in marriage to Debra Kay Rhodes on Dec. 13, 1975, at Calvary Temple Church in Mountain Grove, with Pastor Derrel Friend officiating.
Three sons were born to this union: Jeremy, Joshua and Jamie. In his professional career, Alvin ran heavy equipment and was a skilled dump truck and backhoe operator.
He also worked in law enforcement as a deputy sheriff in Wright County for 15 years and in Texas County for two years. Beyond his work, he was known for his commitment to his community as a proud volunteer of the Mountain Grove Fire Department for 25 years. Alvin was saved and baptized at a young age in Whetstone Creek. He faithfully attended Southside Baptist Church and Emmanuel Baptist Church over the years. Alvin was also passionate about coaching baseball.
His love for the sport led him to run tournaments and coach travel baseball teams, fostering the spirit of teamwork and sportsmanship in many young athletes. He enjoyed fishing and took great pleasure in building ponds, relishing the joy of hosting fish fries, and gathering with friends and family to share these experiences. Alvin leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion that will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Bernie and Helen Mackey; and his mother-in-law, Francis Carder. Alvin is survived by his wife, Debra Mackey, of Mountain Grove; three sons, Jeremy Mackey and wife, Sabrina, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Joshua Mackey and wife, Erin, of South Carolina; and Jamie Mackey and wife, Krystal, of Rogersville; one brother, Bentley Mackey and wife, Nicole, of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Mary Hicks and husband, Ron, of Mountain Grove; nine grandchildren, Rebecca, Calvin, Alice, Emerson, Dylan, Adam, Ariel, Ava and Carder Mackey; and many other extended family and friends who will miss him.
