Ernestine “Ernie” Jeanette Buchanan

Ernestine “Ernie” Jeanette Buchanan, daughter of Loyd and Ruby Burpo, was born on Aug. 7, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tenn. She left this earthly life on Nov. 11, 2025, at the age of 82. She was preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Ruby Burpo; one brother, Donald Burpo, of Bartlesville, Okla. On Aug. 23, 1963, Ernestine married Terry Buchanan. Ernestine is survived by her husband, Terry, of Mansfield,; one brother, Wesley Burpo and wife, Joyce, of Noblesville, Ind.; one daughter, Paula Warwick and her husband, Drew, of East End, Ark.; one son, Tony Buchanan and his wife, Blythe Burkhardt, of Saint Louis. She had four grandchildren, Nathan Warwick and wife, Hailee, Joel Warwick, Jack Buchanan and Lucy Buchanan. Ernestine earned her bachelor’s degree in education at Bethany Nazarene College and worked as an elementary school teacher. She was active in the churches pastored by Terry, serving as pianist, organist, Sunday School teacher, Bible study leader and Vacation Bible School teacher. She will be remembered as a woman fully devoted to God. Besides Ernestine’s passion for God, she loved her family and her friends very much. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading, and raising beautiful plants and flowers. Ernestine will be greatly missed, we rejoice that she is at home in heaven, free from pain and sorrow.
A Funeral service was held for Ernestine on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at Mansfield Church of the Nazarene in Mansfield, with burial at the Mansfield Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home Mansfield. Memorial contributions can be made in Ernestine’s memory to Mansfield Church of the Nazarene.
