Cora Sue Mackie,

Cora Sue Mackie, 81, of Grovespring, entered into Heavenly rest on Oct. 29, 2025. Sue, as she was called by most who knew her, was born Nov. 26, 1943 to Lester and Catherine (Massey) Long. Sue attended school at Grovespring, Niangua and Hartville. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child and was later baptized on the same day as her mother Catherine and brother Paul. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. After graduating from Hartville High School, she worked at the MFA Exchange in Grovespring, following in her mother Catherine’s footsteps. Sue met Loren Mackie, the love of her life, in 1972. They were married on Aug. 11, 1972. In 1976, they welcomed their son Michael to the family. Sue enjoyed caring for her home and family. She kept precise records and knew exactly where to find things. Her home was always “company ready” should someone stop by for a visit. Loved ones would receive the instruction to “Be careful” when leaving on a trip whether it was down the road or across the country. Sue created beautiful embroidery and enjoyed playing the piano and doing crossword puzzles. Sue loved children. She especially cherished the times of playing with Barbies while babysitting great granddaughter Kyndra Robertson. Later in life, she looked forward to Sunday afternoon visits from grandchildren Charlotte, Eli and Gatlin Mackie. She would play the part of a student as Charlotte taught school, push trains around the track with Eli, and cuddle in her chair with Gatlin.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Catherine Long, and brother, Paul Long. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Loren Mackie; son, Michael Mackie and wife, Crystal, of Mountain Grove; daughter, Carol Rose, of Belle; daughter, Rhonda Hall, of Menifee, Calif.; daughter, Jeanitta Wood and husband, Ed ,of Lebanon,; son, Rod Mackie and wife, Sheryl, of Menifee, Calif.; and all of their extended families; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Long, of Springfield, and her family; sister-in-law, Olive Mace, and her family. She also leaves behind special school buddy and lifetime friend, Pat Rhoads, and grandchildren Chris and Jennifer Robertson, who would be across the road in a flash to assist Sue. Sue made sure that she told her loved ones that she loved them and gave them a big hug each time before they left. Funeral Service for Sue will be held on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025, at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel in Lebanon. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., also on Saturday at Shadel’s Colonial Chapel. Burial will be at Mt. Rose Memorial Park in Lebanon. Memorials can be made to Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel’s Colonial Chapel, 1001 N. Lynn or P.O.
