Norwood wins Willow Springs Tournament title

The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team after winning the Willow Springs Tournament title with a win over Plato in the finals.
The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball team won this past weekend’s Willow Springs Tournament after knocking off a 13-win Plato squad in the championship contest, 3-2. Maddie Campbell was dominant on the mound against the Lady Eagles as she tossed seven innings and gave up two earned runs on six hits with 12 strikeouts and one walk.
Katelynn Bennett had our hits and scored one run; both Autumn Gunter and Mayci Calhoun had one RBI; while Gracelynn Miller scored one run.
The Lady Pirates also picked up a 2-1 win over Fordland as a pair of ground outs plated two runs for the Lady Pirates in the top of the sixth inning.
Jaycee Hall and Gunter each had one RBI while Miller and Bennett both scored one run.
Campbell tossed a complete game shutout and gave up five hits with nine strikeouts.
In the opener against the host Lady Bears, Campbell tossed a complete game shutout, giving up four hits and striking out 14 in a 4-1 victory.
Addie Smith had two RBIs; Lydia Harden had one RBI; while Calhoun, Campbell and Hall each scored one run.

The win over Plato in the finals of a tournament came just 11 days after Plato beat Norwood, 12-4.
Plato scored eight runs in the top of the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie.
Hall had two RBIs and scored twice; Miller had one RBI; while Smith and Bennett each scored one run.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up six earned runs on 15 hits with 13 strikeouts.
One day before that win, the Lady Pirates defeated Willow Springs, 8-6. Norwood rallied with three runs in the final at-bat to pick up the win.
Miller had two RBIs and one run scored; Bennett had one RBI and scored two times; Harden and Smith had one RBI and scored one run; while Clarisa Passott, Calhoun and Hall each scored one run.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up three earned runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.
