Norwood Pirates fall in OT to Van Buren

The Norwood Pirates’ basketball team had a tough road match-up with Van Buren last week and fell, 76-66, in overtime.
Van Buren jumped out to a 25-point first quarter to put the Pirates in the hole early by eight.
Norwood would close the gap before halftime thanks to Carder Kelly’s five points.
Entering the fourth quarter down one, Kelly scored seven of his team’s 15 points in the fourth to help the game reach overtime.
In the extra session, the Bulldogs outscored the Pirates, 17-7, and cruised late to the 10-point victory.
Kelly scored a team-high 26 points; Laken Coatney had 15; Pierce Lawson added nine; Andrew Bradshaw scored eight; Carson Vaughan had four points; while both Remington Hill and Brady Vaughan had two points.
Earlier in the week, Norwood overcame a sluggish start against Gloria Deo Academy before pulling away for a 73-37 victory.
Norwood trailed 17-13 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring their opponent, 60-20, in the final three quarters.
Kelly scored 26 points; Coatney had 12; Bradshaw scored 11; Brady Vaughan had nine; Hill had eight; Hunner Finch had five; and Carson Vaughan scored two points.
