Lady Pirates’ season ends in district quarterfinals
The Norwood Lady Pirates’ softball season came to an abrupt end after they fell in the quarterfinals of the Class 1, District 1 Tournament on their home diamond.
Norwood, the No. 2 seed, took on No. 7 seeded Neelyville and fell, 15-4.
Six Lady Pirates’ errors doomed Norwood in the loss as they were unable to overcome Neelyville’s seven-run top of the fourth inning that broke a 4-4 tie.
Though it was a tough loss, one bright spot was pitcher Maddie Campbell picking up her 1,000 career strikeout.
Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up four earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Jaycee Hall and Campbell each had one RBI and one run scored with a pair of hits. Both Jamison Williams and Mayci Calhoun had one RBI while Jayden Chambers and Addison Smith scored one run.
Norwood finished their season with a 12-12 record.
