Hartville girls beat rival Mansfield

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ basketball team traveled to rival Mansfield’s gym last week with the hopes of starting Summit Conference play with a 3-0 record.
Hartville held Mansfield to six points or less in the first three quarters before holding on late for a 36-30 victory.
Maddie Brown scored six points in the first quarter during an 11-4 run.
She would then score all five of Hartville’s points in the second quarter to take a 16-9 lead into halftime.
Mansfield’s Elly Williams scored four points in the first half of play.
Kinley Cryer scored five points in the third quarter, though the Lady Lions cut into the lead as three different players scored a basket.
Addie Jones scored eight points in the final frame, but it was Brown who made 5-of-6 free throws to seal the win.
Brown scored a team-high 18 points; both Sarah Parker and Cryer added eight points; and Katia Todd had two points.
For Mansfield, Jones had a team-high 10 points. Gentry Alsup and Williams both scored six points; Haven Tripp had four points; while Chloe Napier and Lemons had two points.
The Lady Eagles also defeated Seymour on the road back on Jan. 7, 35-32. (Information from that contest was not available by press time.)
