Water service issues on Jan. 2 for the City of Mansfield
Mansfield residents woke up to an unpleasant surprise on Thursday, Jan. 2.
They had no water or possibly unsafe water for that morning along with the next couple of days.
Free bottles of water were provided by the Red Cross and handed out to everyone in need by volunteers at City Hall from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday.
The Convoy of Hope also provided 14 pallets of water on Friday, Jan. 3. The main pump had lived out its lifetime, which caused it to fail and the back up system did not work.
It needs repairs, even though both systems passed inspection in July. The city promised to have it working by Saturday and they made good on that promise.
A boil advisory remained in effect until water samples were cleared by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for safety reasons, but the water returned to the people right before the predicted winter storm that was supposed to arrive. The boil advisory was lifted on Sunday, Jan. 7.
These issues will be addressed by the City in the near future.
