On Friday, Aug. 9 and Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Old Gym of the Mountain Grove High School, the Heritage Festival Quilt Show will be open to welcome visitors. Entry drop-off times are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8. Come see these quilts, antique and new, which can best be described as works of art in fabric displaying an amazing array of designs, shapes and colors.
Mountain Grove’s resident tailor, Jim Oxley, will also be there with his collection of hand-sewn dresses.
This year’s Heritage Festival theme is “Fruit and Feathers,” celebrating the history of fruit and poultry research and industry in our area. There will be a multi-media display presented by the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station celebrating its 125th year anniversary. The Wright County Farm Bureau will have a display including chickens of various breeds, baby chicks and an egg display to recognize the Missouri State Poultry Experiment Station that was established in Mountain Grove in 1911.
The History and Arts Center will feature additional displays of both Experiment Stations at the Old Jail just off the southeast corner of the square from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Also on Saturday, The Petersens bluegrass band from Branson will perform at noon followed by The Finley River Boys with more entertainment at 3 p.m. There is still time to enter the Fruit Dessert contest and the “Dress Your Pet Chicken” contest. To enter either of these contests, check out the Mountain Grove Heritage Festival Facebook page for details.
Also, be sure to come browse the nearly 200 vendors and enjoy delicious food, live music and exhibits at this year’s festival.
