Virginia “Louise” Smith

Virginia “Louise” Smith, daughter of the late Eugene and Zelma (Johnson) Moore, was born on May 21, 1952, in Willow Springs, and departed this life on June 11, 2024, at her home in Mountain Grove. She was 72 years and 21 days of age. Virginia was united in marriage to Roy Don Smith on Oct. 22, 1970. Three children were born to this union. Virgina was a hard worker, and worked various jobs throughout the community. Her favorites being the jobs where she got to assist with children.  Virginia found joy in doing crafts, planting flowers and tomato plants in her flower beds, camping, and taking trips to Branson. She had a love for stray animals, often feeding the cats in her neighborhood. She enjoyed spending any of her free time with her children and grandchildren, and was quick to tell others that they were her pride and joy. 
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; two daughters, Melissa Mabe and Tina Claxton; three sisters, Mabel Walker, Kay Martin and Faye Cooper; one brother, Tommy Moore; and one brother-in-law, Harvey High. She is survived by one son, Keith Smith and wife, Christina, of Mountain Grove; six grandchildren, Jordyn (Levi) Freeman, Trey Dixson, Logan (Emma) Dixson, Dylan Claxton, and Jaxson and Layne Smith; two great-grandchildren, Tucker and Cooper Freeman; two sisters, Grace Mings and Sandy (Charles) McCormick; one brother, Donny (Melba) Moore; and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation for Virginia “Louise” Smith was held Monday, June 17, 2024, from 1-2 p.m. at Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, Mountain Grove. Her funeral service followed at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Fry officiating. Song selections were: “Amazing Grace” sung by Ray Bradley, “I Can Only Imagine,” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain.” Pallbearers were Keith Smith, Logan Dixson, Dylan Claxton, Jaxson Smith, Levi Freeman and Adam Cantrell. Honorary pallbearers were Trey Dixson, Layne Smith, Tucker Freeman and Cooper Freeman. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Mountain Grove. Memorial contributions may be made to the City of Mountain Grove Animal Shelter in care of the funeral home.
